Guard your Heart

Guard Your Heart Proverbs 4:23   Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.   In the world we are continuously subjected by countless influences, both positive and negative. Therefore, guarding our hearts become a crucial spiritual discipline. We must be vigilant about what we allow to shape our thoughts, attitudes, and beliefs. Just as we lock our doors to keep out thieves, we must safeguard our hearts against the subtle intrusions of negativity, fear, bitterness, and unhealthy desires.   Guarding our hearts is about safeguarding our thoughts, emotions, desires, and attitudes. Our hearts are the wellsprings of our lives, the source from which our actions, words, and decisions flow. Just as a fountain cannot give forth both fresh and bitter water at the same time, so our hearts cannot produce both good and evil fruit at the same time. The first and most obvious thing we see in Psalm 42:1is this incredible hunger and thirst for the Lord by the psalmist. He is comparing it to how a deer will seek a stream to quench its thirst. Deer need water to survive, just like every creature on this earth. Without it, we would all perish. The psalmist beautifully paints a vivid picture of a deer panting for streams of water. This image captures the essence of an intense spiritual thirst, a deep longing for the presence of God. The psalmist's soul echoes with a yearning that many of us can relate to at various points in our lives. Just as a deer instinctively seeks water to quench its thirst, our souls long for a connection with the divine source of life. We experience a profound thirst for meaning, purpose, and a ...
