Embracing God's Call in Your Christian Journey
Embracing God's Call in Your Christian Journey
Philippians 2:13
(NLT)
"For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him."
Being called to serve God early in your Christian life is a profound privilege and responsibility. It can be both exciting and intimidating to feel God's tug on your heart as you begin your journey with Him. At the age of seventeen I surrendered my life to Christ; in a few months I felt the tug of God on my heart. Philippians 2:13 reassures me that God is working in me, giving me the desire and the power to do what pleases him." This scripture provides a strong foundation as I step into my calling.
Early in my Christian Journey I began a Sunday school for kids in one of our inner-city communities. When I sense God's call in my faith journey, I recognized the importance that this calling is not based on my strength or wisdom but on God's purpose and power. My early calling means that God sees potential and purpose in me that He wants to develop and use for His glory. God also instills within you the desire to serve Him. This desire is a clear sign of His work in your life. As you nurture this desire, spend time in prayer and study of the Word to deepen your understanding of God's heart. This will help align your passions with His will.
To live a life that pleases God can be overwhelming; the standards seem high and our human frailties often make us feel inadequate. However, Philippians 2:13 offers a profound encouragement: "For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him." God doesn't just set expectations for us and leave us to our own devices. Instead, He actively works within us, shaping our desires and providing us with the power necessary to fulfill His will. When God is at work in us, He transforms our hearts, aligning our desires with His purposes. This transformation is a gradual process, where we start to long for the things that matter to God. Our priorities shift from self-centered goals to those that reflect God's love and holiness.
Trust in God's
Work: When you feel inadequate or discouraged, remind yourself that it is God
who is at work within you. Your role is to cooperate with His Spirit and trust
in His process. Stay open to God's leading. The more you align with His will,
the more your desires will reflect His heart. Acknowledge your dependence on
God's power, do not strive in your own strength, ask God daily to fill you with
His Spirit and to give you the strength you need. Remember, you are not alone
in your journey of faith. God is actively working in you, equipping you with
everything you need to fulfill His purposes. Embrace His work within you and
let His power flow through your life.
