"God is our refuge"
"God is our refuge"
Psalm 62:8 (NLT)
O my people, trust in him at all times.
Pour out your heart to him, for God is our refuge.
Psalm 62:8 declares with certainty,
"God is our refuge." Let us pause for a moment and consider what does
this mean in our lives. A refuge is a place of safety, protection, and peace.
When we are in a storm, whether emotional, spiritual, or physical, we need a
place of shelter, where we can find rest and security. The psalmist reminds us
that God Himself is this refuge. He is not a temporary shelter that can be
shaken or destroyed by the winds of life; He is an eternal, unshakable refuge.
In difficult times in life, it is easy for
us to forget where our true refuge lies. We may look to success, relationships,
possessions, or even our own abilities for comfort and security. However, these
things can never offer the lasting peace that God does. Only in God can we find
the perfect protection and rest we need. He is the one who can calm our fears
and quiet our hearts, even when the world around us is in turmoil.
To find refuge in God means to trust in
His promises. It is to believe that He is who He says He is, our protector, our
provider, our Savior. It is to rest in the assurance that He is in control, and
that nothing, not even the hardest circumstances, can separate us from His love
(Romans 8:35). If you truly understand God as your refuge, it changes how you
approach challenges. Because God is your refuge you can face life’s
difficulties with confidence, knowing that you are not alone, and that God’s
sheltering presence is always available to you. It also means that you can pour
out your heart to Him. Trust Him with all your heart, do not lean on your own
understanding.
Trust in Him to guide you when in doubt,
to protect you when in danger, to supply your needs when in want, to strengthen
you for every good word and work. Take a moment today to pour out your heart to
God. Trust in His ability to be your refuge, no matter what you are facing.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being my refuge, my safe place. Help me to turn to You
first when life becomes difficult or overwhelming. Teach me to rest in Your
peace and trust in Your protection. I surrender my fears and worries into Your
hands, knowing You are always with me. Amen.
