Called Out Of and Into

Called Out Of and Into 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV) But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. In 1 Peter 2:9, Peter reminds us of our dual identity as followers of Christ: to be "called out" of darkness and into God's marvelous light, with the purpose of declaring His praises to the world. This call is not just about individual salvation, but about entering a new identity in Christ, as part of a royal, holy community that exists to reflect God’s glory. When we were called out, we were rescued from darkness. This "darkness" can represent a multitude of things: sin, confusion, ignorance, despair, and separation from God. The darkness is not just the absence of light, but a place where truth is hidden, and lives are trapped in the shadows of brokenness. Jesus is the one who made it possible by taking on our darkness at the cro...

The Urgency of Walking in the Light

The Urgency of Walking in the Light John 12:35-36 (NLT) Jesus replied, “My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going.  36  Put your trust in the light while there is still time; then you will become children of the light.” After saying these things, Jesus went away and was hidden from them. In John 12:35-36, Jesus speaks of Himself as the Light of the world, urging us to walk in that light while it is still available. This reminds us of the fleeting nature of the opportunities to encounter and respond to God's truth. While Jesus was physically present, His followers could walk with Him, hear His teachings, and witness His miracles. But this period was drawing to a close. Similarly, in our own lives, there are moments when God calls us to act or respond to Him. These moments may not last forever. Time and opportunity are p...

Sheltered in His Arms

Sheltered in His Arms Deuteronomy 33:27 (NIV) "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms." This theme of being "sheltered in His arms" is a beautiful expression of God's love and care. To being "sheltered" speaks to the deep sense of protection, security, and rest that we find when we trust in God. His arms are not only strong but everlasting, and capable of holding us steady in any circumstance. In moments of life’s storms, whether trials, challenges, or fears, it is comforting to know that we are sheltered in the arms of our loving and all-powerful God. Deuteronomy 33:27, was spoken by Moses as a blessing over Israel; it summaries a powerful message of God's eternal protection and care for His people. It paints a picture of a safe haven where we can find refuge, no matter what challenges we face. When we encounter difficulties or face uncertainties, we can be assured that the God who was faithful to Israel ...

Relationship Built On Love And Peace

Relationship Built On Love And Peace Ephesians 4:31-32 Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior.  32  Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. A relationship founded on love and peace is one that mirrors the heart of God. In Ephesians 4:31-32, Paul provides a clear framework for how we can build such relationships. Relationships are central to our lives, reflecting the heart of God's design for us. Paul offers guidance for fostering relationships rooted in love and peace. He challenges us to abandon behaviors that destroy unity: bitterness, anger, harsh words and malice, instead embrace a spirit of kindness, compassion, and forgiveness. These virtues form the cornerstone of love and peace. Love is not merely an emotion; it is a choice to prioritize the well-being of another, even when it is difficult. It is expressed through ki...
