Running Toward God
Running Toward God
2 Timothy 2:22 (ESV)
So, flee youthful passions and
pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on
the Lord from a pure heart.
Hey youth, have you ever watched a race?
The runner does not just wander onto the track, they are focused, intentional,
and running toward a goal. This is the picture Paul depicts in 2 Timothy 2:22.
It is not just about avoiding what is harmful; it is about actively chasing
what brings you closer to God.
Paul talks about "evil desires of
youth." He encourages you to recognize the things that can pull you away
from God, such as jealousy, lust, pride, selfishness, peer pressure, and to
actively distance yourself from them. This is not a sign of weakness; it is a
sign of strength and wisdom. Just like a runner knows to avoid distractions or
obstacles, you are called to run away from anything that takes you off course
spiritually.
Life is not just about avoiding sin; it is
about running toward what is good. Develop a hunger for righteousness by
staying rooted in God’s Word. Strengthen your faith through prayer and trust in
God’s promises. Show love in your relationships, even when it is hard, and seek
peace in every situation, avoiding unnecessary conflict. Paul emphasizes the
importance of being with others who call on the Lord from a pure heart.
Surround yourself with friends who encourage you to grow in your walk with
Christ. These are the people who will pray with you, challenge you to do
better, and walk alongside you in your pursuit of godliness.
Reflect on the verse and think about the
"evil desires" in your life. Is it a bad habit, a toxic relationship,
or something else? Decide today to leave it behind. Take one step this week to
grow in righteousness, faith, love, and peace. Start by making a new Bible reading plan, show
kindness to someone, and make time to pray daily. Identify the people in your
life who push you closer to God. If you do not have that circle, ask God to
bring those friends into your life.
Prayer
Lord, I want to run toward You with all my
heart. Help me to turn away from anything that pulls me away from You. Teach me
to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace in my life. Bring godly friends
into my life to encourage me and keep me accountable as I follow You. In Jesus’
name, Amen.
Remember, the Christian life is not a solo
sprint, it is a lifelong race with God as your ultimate prize. Keep your eyes
on Him and run with purpose!
