I Am A Soldier

 I Am A Soldier

Ephesians 6:13 17 (ESV)

Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God

Life as a Christian involves more than just belief it involves battle. Paul writes in Ephesians 6 to the Ephesians and believers today not only to offer encouragement but also to equip them for the realities of spiritual warfare.

As followers of Christ, we are not passive observers in the conflict between good and evil. I am a soldier not of flesh and blood, but of the Spirit. The moment I gave my life to Christ, I joined a battle far greater than myself: a war not against people, but against the spiritual forces of darkness. Each day, I rise to find myself on a battlefield. But I am not alone, and I am not without armor.

Paul reminds us that we are engaged in a spiritual war, and the only way to stand firm is by being fully armed with the armor of God. As soldiers of Christ, we are called to be committed, disciplined, and vigilant. No soldier steps onto the battlefield unprepared and neither should we. Each day, we must intentionally put on the armor God has provided: The Belt of Truth holds everything together. In a world flooded with lies and half-truths, grounding ourselves in Scripture keeps us anchored in what is real and unchanging.

The Breastplate of Righteousness protects our hearts. It is not our own righteousness, but Christ’s, that shields us from guilt, shame, and the accusations of the enemy. The Shield of Faith deflects the fiery arrows of doubt, fear, and temptation. It is our confidence in God that keeps us standing when the pressure mounts. The Helmet of Salvation guards our minds. When we are secure in the knowledge of our salvation, we are better equipped to resist the mental attacks of discouragement and despair. The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, is our one offensive weapon. It is alive, powerful, and sharper than any double-edged sword. With it, we confront lies with truth and push back the darkness. This is how we stand not in our own strength but fully equipped by God.

I declare that I am a soldier of Christ. I will not back down. I will not give in to fear, temptation, or discouragement. I will stand my ground, fully equipped with the armor of God, and fight the good fight of faith. I press on not by my own strength, but by His power at work within me.

Prayer: Lord, help me to stand firm today. Clothe me with Your armor, Your truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and Your Word. Teach me to rely on You in every battle I face. Let me not fight in my own strength, but in Yours. Amen.
