"Real Life Starts with Jesus" Youth Devotional
"Real Life Starts with Jesus"
John 10:10 (NLT)
“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.”
Hey Youth! Ever feel like something is just off, like you are doing all the things but still feeling empty? Social media, popularity, grades, relationships they all promise to make you happy, but that feeling never really sticks, does it? In John 10:10, Jesus talks about this. He says there is a thief, Satan, who is out to steal your joy, mess with your purpose, and tear down your identity. He does it by feeding you lies like, “You are not enough,” “You will never change,” or “God doesn’t really care.”
But Jesus flips the script. He says, “I came so you could really live.” Not just get by. Not just survive school, family stress, or all the drama life throws at you. But to thrive with real peace, real joy, and a purpose way bigger than just trying to fit in. And here is the best part: You are not alone. If you have said yes to Jesus, you have got His presence living in you. You have got His Word to guide you, remind you of what is true, and give you strength when life gets heavy. Jesus does not just promise life; He promises life to the full. And in case you ever wonder if you are safe with Him, He says this: "No one can snatch you out of My hand.” (John 10:28–30) You are loved. You are held. You are secure.
The “abundant life” Jesus promises do not mean life will always be easy or perfect. It means He gives you strength when things get tough, confidence in who you are, and hope no matter what is going on around you. This week, think about one thing that drains you maybe it is comparing yourself to others, negative self-talk, or the pressure to always have it together. Now, swap that out for something that connects you to Jesus, like reading a short Bible passage or taking 5 honest minutes to talk to God in prayer.
Prayer:
Jesus, I want the real life You came to give me. Help me see through the lies and distractions that pull me away from You. Show me what it means to live fully alive in You, joyful, free, and full of purpose. Amen.
