"On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand"

"On Christ the Solid Rock I Stand" Isaiah 26:4 (NIV)   "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal."   In the midst of life's storms, uncertainties, and trials, Isaiah 26:4 offers a profound reassurance: "Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal." This powerful verse beckons us to place our unwavering trust in God, who is our eternal and unchanging foundation.   The imagery of God as "the Rock" is rich and has many different aspects. A rock signifies strength, stability, and permanence. Unlike shifting sands or unstable ground, a rock provides a solid foundation upon which we can stand with confidence. Quoting my five-year-old granddaughter “A rock is something if you stand on it, it won’t break.” Her saying reminds me of the hymn, "My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less," particularly the chorus: On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking...

Embracing God's Call in Your Christian Journey

Embracing God's Call in Your Christian Journey Philippians 2:13 (NLT) "For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him."   Being called to serve God early in your Christian life is a profound privilege and responsibility. It can be both exciting and intimidating to feel God's tug on your heart as you begin your journey with Him. At the age of seventeen I surrendered my life to Christ; in a few months I felt the tug of God on my heart. Philippians 2:13 reassures me that God is working in me, giving me the desire and the power to do what pleases him." This scripture provides a strong foundation as I step into my calling. Early in my Christian Journey I began a Sunday school for kids in one of our inner-city communities. When I sense God's call in my faith journey, I recognized the importance that this calling is not based on my strength or wisdom but on God's purpose and power. My early calling means that God se...

Living Out Your Calling

Living Out Your Calling   Scripture: Ephesians 4:1-3 (NIV) "As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace."   In Ephesians 4:1-3, the apostle Paul writing from prison addresses the believers with a heartfelt plea to live lives that reflect the profound calling they have received from God. This calling is not just about a specific ministry or task but of guidance for how we should conduct ourselves in our daily lives. Understanding our calling begins with recognizing our identity in Christ and flows into how we live daily. Paul provides practical guidance on what it looks like to live out our calling. Recognize that all we are and have is by God’s grace. To live a life of humility, recognizing our own limitations and the value of others. It is not thinking ...

Embracing Courage and Strength

Embracing Courage and Strength   Joshua 1:9 (NIV) "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."   Joshua 1:9 is a profound verse that calls for strength and courage, encapsulating a timeless message of faith and resilience. Joshua, newly appointed as leader of the Israelites, is about to embark on the enormous task of leading God’s people into the Promised Land. God commission Joshua to "be strong and courageous" it is paired with a comforting promise: "for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." This promise is a cornerstone of faith, assuring us that we are never alone. It invites us to rely not on our own strength but on the infinite strength of God.   In our daily lives, we often face challenges that test our strength and resolve. It could be a difficult decision at work, a personal struggle, or a step towards a long-held ...
